Possible Shrine     As the image and the idea for this project began to come together, I began to wonder about the possibility of a shrine in support of this devotion. This is a quarter-of-a-million-dollar dream but someday, if this devotion is able to help people, it would be wonderful to have a small chapel built in honor of Saint Monica. It would be a small chapel, holding maybe 20 or 25 people, but it would be tall to raise the eyes to God. Upon entering people would immediately have their downcast eyes lifted to the heavens. Perhaps the chapel could have arches as in the image and there could be some stained-glass windows depicting mother/daughter saints or father/daughter saints or brother/sister saints and the like. Maybe there could be a couple of windows depicting a few of the characters of Scripture whose tears have been answered by the Heavenly Father. The tabernacle of the image would be the tabernacle of the chapel – actually housing the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Just as in the image, to the left and below the tabernacle would be the figure of Monica, perhaps in bronze with the tears on her face and in her hands polished to shine. The background in stained-glass or mosaic or paint would provide the rays emanating from the tabernacle toward Monica. An altar would be beneath the image where the Sacrifice of the Mass could be offered. It would be wonderful to place the shrine near a retirement home for priests or a convent or a seminary so that maybe once a week, on a Saturday morning for example, Mass could always be offered for those who have fallen away from the Catholic Church and the faithful could attend. We’ll see what the good Lord has in mind…
